Agence Disc'over

Based in Nice, Disc’over is a sound identity composition agency whose main objective is to add an audio dimension to your brand. Its services range from simple jingles to complete sound identities, including sound design, original music composition and even podcasts. Disc’over is the only representative of this niche service on the French Riviera, making it a key agency for the future of your brand identity.

Production

Brief

Create the sound identity for my own agency.

It should enable me to be instantly recognised by my target audience, in order to strengthen my reputation and take my brand identity to the next level.
The secondary goal is also to serve as an example to my future clients.

Disc’over is a local agency whose core target audience is small businesses in its region, which it supports on a daily basis.
It provides a service that adapts to the identity of its clients. This concept must be the main focus of the project.

The sound identity will be used in videos produced by Disc’over and on its telephone answering service.

Reflexion

Producing for a client is one thing.
Producing for myself is quite different.
The exercise requires me to take a step back and figure out what really suits me. So I have to take on the role of both agency AND client.

The element I need to focus on most is adaptability.
The dominant inspiration is to use several styles in the same composition.
This is very risky because it is very technical and the result can easily be clumsy.

Disc’over is aimed at businesses. The styles must therefore be ones that some of them could use in their communications, while retaining my personality because, as a self-employed entrepreneur, it is also my personality that I am selling.

I have therefore opted for four styles:

  • Cinematic
  • Popular
  • Natural
  • Instrumental

Composition

With the objectives set and the structure chosen, I can now proceed to translate it into music.

The sound identity consists of three different notes for a melody containing five: C – D – E – D – C.
They are combined and played back and forth, creating a symmetrical sound. Simple, effective, and easy to remember: everything a good sound identity should be.

To put it into context, I now need to adapt it to the styles mentioned in the previous section, choosing appropriate instrumentation:

  • Cinematic:
The theme played by the violins is accompanied by low strings, which give the piece body, and wind instruments, which anchor the dynamics of this section.
  • Popular:
The voices take up the theme, affirming the sound identity introduced in the previous section. This time, the percussion provides the rhythm, a key element of the style.
  • Natural:
Let’s take flight and breathe in the lightness. The flute introduces the sound logo again, accompanied by colourful piano arpeggios.
  • Instrumental:
The transition is provided by the electric guitar surrounded by classic hard rock instrumentation, the composer’s admitted guilty pleasure.
  • Sound design:
This last part is a kind of bonus outro representing a very important element in the design of certain sound identities. I wanted to give a nod to some of my work and my role as a contributor in this field.
